VINTAGE: Top Charity Sales From Past Barrett-Jackson Auctions
The Top 10 vehicles that sold for charitable causes are led by four that crossed into seven figures.

Charity car auctions to benefit a wide variety of charitable cause have become a hallmark of Barrett-Jackson auction, with the auction company waiving its fees so that all the proceeds go to the designated charity.

These are the top-selling Barrett-Jackson charity sales:

1. 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 custom hardtop, $1 million – The specially built show car was donated by auction president Steve Davis to benefit the Armed Forces Foundation sold once at the 2011 Las Vegas auction for $700,000 when it was donated back for resale by the high bidder, then sold again at the 2012 Scottsdale auction for $1 million.

2. 1993 Hummer H1, CNN’s Warrior One, $1 million – Used by CNN crews covering the Iraq war, it was restored and customized, including a story-telling military paint job, and donated to benefit Fisher House Foundation for military families. It was sold at the 2007 Scottsdale auction.

3. 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 coupe, $1 million – The rights to the first-off-the-assembly-line performance Corvette was sold to benefit the United Way at the Scottsdale 2008 auction.

4. 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 hardtop, $1 million – Lavishly painted with a patriotic theme, this custom Shelby was sold to benefit Wounded Warriors Family Support at the 2012 Palm Beach auction.

5. 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 custom hardtop, $700,000 – The first sale of the show car donated by auction president Steve Davis to benefit the Armed Forces Foundation sold at the 2011 Las Vegas auction.

6. 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427 Collector Edition, $700,000 – This special Corvette, which Chevy calls its fastest convertible ever, was introduced and sold to benefit the Drive to End Hunger food-relief program at the 2012 Scottsdale auction.

7. 2008 Ford Shelby GT500 KR coupe, $550,000 – Proceeds from the sale of this collaboration between Ford and Shelby benefited the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at the 2008 Scottsdale auction.

8. 2007 New Holland Boomer Tractor, $535,000 – TV host Jay Leno donated and help sell his signed tractor, which raised money for the Fisher House Foundation when it sold at the 2012 Scottsdale auction.

9. 1970 Plymouth Superbird Custom Tribute, $501,000 – YearOne teamed up with former pro wrestler Bill Goldberg to create this special NASCAR-themed muscle car, which sold at the 2009 Scottsdale auction to benefit the Darrell Gwinn Foundation.

10. 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS Custom "Project American Heroes," $500,000 – With a build documented in Super Chevy magazine, this extreme custom Camaro sold to benefit the Armed Forces Foundation at the 2009 Palm Beach auction.
