VINTAGE: Thinking Pink On The Block

There are always bargains at Barrett-Jackson auctions, and the opening day of the 2012 Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Collector Car event was no exception.

One reason you can find bargains is that custom cars and trucks are often unique and highly personalized. And the more unique and personalized a vehicle is, the bigger the bargain can be at times.

Such was the case Thursday at Barrett-Jackson when a wild 1970 Chevrolet C-10 custom truck crossed the auction block in Sin City. It had everything: a highly chromed and modified 400-cubic-inch small-block Chevy engine; suicide doors; bagged suspension, front and rear; custom body work and a gray tweed interior.

But what it most of all was pink.

Lots and lots and lots of pink.

Pink pearl paint.

Pink ghost flames.

A pink tonneau cover.

Even a pink trailer.

It undoubtedly cost a bunch to build, probably far more than the $16,500 it sold for on Thursday. Still, the buyer got a deal on a distinctive custom truck that would be impossible to replicate for the sale price. And that’s part of the fun of every Barrett-Jackson auction.
