The California Spyder, beautifully designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, tops the charts with a value of $7.5 million to $9 million.

The red roadster, chassis 3119 GT, is one of just 37 short-wheelbase variants out of about 100 California Spyders built between 1958 and 1963, and its covered headlights ranks it among the most desirable of them all. It is powered by Ferrari’s famous 3-liter Colombo V12.

“A true dual-purpose automobile, the 250 GT SWB California Spyder remains one of the world’s most coveted automobiles,” said Rob Myers, chairman and founder of RM Auctions. “As one of only a very small group of covered-headlamp versions produced, the example on offer is emphatically one of the most desirable open GT cars ever made, combining all of Ferrari’s finest work: perfect design with tremendous performance.”

The car is Ferrari Classiche certified with matching numbers, and it received a professional restoration before its showing in the 1990 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it won a class award. The upcoming RM auction happens during Monterey Classic Car Week, which culminates in the Pebble Beach Concours.

Among the other Ferraris being offered by RM is a 1956 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Berlinetta Tour de France that was featured in the Disney movie The Love Bug and a one-off Scaglietti-built 1955 Ferrari 410 S Berlinetta.
