VINTAGE: Porsche Sponsors Pinehurst
The inaugural Concours d'Elegance events at the historic Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina happen May 3-5.

The Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance in North Carolina has lined up a prestigious sponsor for its inaugural event: Porsche.
Officials of the concours, scheduled for May 3-5 at the historic Pinehurst Resort, announced the sponsorship today, adding that the German sports-car brand will be a featured marque with a competitive show class. The automaker also will have its latest models on site for viewing and test drives.
Porsche is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic 911 during 2013, and Pinehurst will present yet another opportunity to mark the occasion, said David Kurtz, vice president, area south, for Porsche Cars North America.
“The 911 remains true to its original concept, even 50 years later,” Kurtz said. “This event provides us with an ideal environment to celebrate our heritage and to allow participants and attendees the opportunity to experience our current products at the same time.”
The Pinehurst Concours is framed as a world-class show and competition with a field of 118 rare and vintage automobiles staged on the fairways of Pinehurst Resort on Sunday, May 5. The number of cars honors the years since the 1895 founding of the world-renowned resort.
The weekend also includes the 35-mile Iron Mike Rally on May 3 to the Army base at Fort Bragg, which is supporting the event, and an RKM Collector Car Auction May 4 at the Fair Barn adjacent to the resort.
“The Porsche sponsorship is a welcome development which adds an exciting new dimension to the Pinehurst Concours,” said Bob Ingram, a well-known car collector and the event’s honorary chairman.
