CHARLOTTE, NC - Thursday, April 5, 2007: You're In!

Thursday morning, I get the call. "You're in. Collect your gear, get your Passport, your International Driver's Permit, and pack your bags. You're going to the World Finals of the Dunlop Driver's Cup! We'll cover your itinerary and give you your gear Monday. You fly out in one week."


The World Finals of the Dunlop Driver's Cup is an event beyond any enthusiast's wildest fantasies! Germany has been hosting the event for the past eight years at exotic locations all over the world, including South America, Malaysia, Mexico, Australia, California, and South Africa.



This year's competition will include a 10-day 3,200 kilometers (almost 2,000 miles) rally from Hanau, Germany through France, over the Pyrenees into Spain and down to Malaga on the southern Mediterranean coast. There will be six stops along the way where drivers will compete in custom Nissan 350Z's on three tracks throughout Europe, including the prestigious
Hockenheimring, a private Goodyear test rack, and the ultra-exclusive Ascari Race Resort.

Competition will also include technical off-road stages driving the Nissan Patrol and Nissan Pathfinder, motorcylce and ATV racing, a fitness challenge, and Karting on a 3+ kilometer track in Calahorra, Spain.


I'm a pinch hitter filling in for SPEED's Senior Editor to drive with Team USA against the best drivers from Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Switzerland, and France, who have all competed and won in their own countries to advance to the World Finals.

I feel a bit like I won a lottery to play in the Superbowl, "Congratulations, you won! Good luck! Don't worry, you'll be fine..." as I prepare to square off against a 330-lb giant!

Ok, no problem, I can do this. Race to win! I'm ready. Really... gulp!
