SPEED Set to Cover Inaugural Las Vegas Barrett-Jackson Event

Barrett-Jackson's Steve Davis says, "Las Vegas is one of the most exciting locations in the world, which makes it the perfect venue for the world's greatest collector car events."

SPEED™, the definitive network for motor sports and the automotive lifestyle, will be presenting live coverage from this year’s inaugural Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event and ‘no reserve’ auction from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. The broadcast starts at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on Oct. 16; and will be produced in crystal-clear, high definition.

The network began covering Barrett-Jackson in 1997, offering five total hours live from its January Scottsdale, Ariz., event. As ratings grew, so did the programming and in 2004, SPEED added the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event from Palm Beach, Fla., to the broadcast roster that March. Now, Las Vegas adds a third event to schedule, and the first live collector car auction to be shown during SPEED’s fall programming lineup.

“We’re really excited about going to a venue like Mandalay Bay because of the outstanding facilities
available, and their experience with multiple, large-scale television productions,” said Rick Miner, SPEED SVP of Studio Production & Operations. “And that’s not including the stunning canvas of the Las Vegas strip. In fact, we’re bringing in a large crane to cover many of the outside shots. We’re also adding robotic ‘point-of-view’ cameras to take advantage of the space’s overall magnitude.”

Familiar faces will again host the Las Vegas event. SPEED Formula One voice Bob Varsha anchors the show’s play-by-play and will be joined in the booth by long-time Motor Trend editor Matt Stone. Detailing cars on the auction block will be collector car enthusiast, Mike Joy, the voice of NASCAR on FOX, and Steve Magnante, the former technical editor for Hot Rod magazine. Arizona’s Rick DeBruhl will again roam the grounds to look for stories on what’s happening outside the auction tent.
