Massive power, screaming V8, surgically precise handling. Yes, it's a Lexus... ยป More Photos

Warning, Will Robinson. Alien spacecraft approaching!

What’s more alien than a 416-horsepower Lexus that will cream from zero to 60 in a Beam-Me-Up-Scotty 4.2 seconds? Well, apart from Mary-Kate Olsen.

How extra-terrestrial is a Lexus that can actually give a spanking to BMW’s latest M3, out-charge an Audi RS4 and give a good run-for-its-money to Merc’s upcoming C63 AMG asphalt missile?

The spacecraft in question goes by the name of F. As in F-for-freaky-fast. As in F-for-fornicatingly-fabulous. As in F-for-fiery-funster. As in Lexus IS F.

Are we talking about the same Lexus that’s the darling of the 60-plus AARP crowd, the tofu-sprung favorite of every retiring CEO, CEO’s wife and golfers nation-wide? Same one.

That’s the numero uno mission of this testosterone-fueled IS F; to get the BMW/Merc/Audi crowd to start thinking that a Lexus might actually be cool, and much more than some Nippon-built Buick.
/> And boy does this puppy deliver. It’s brutally fast, sounds like Dale Jr.’s Chevy on the Daytona banking, is as agile, grippy and responsive as any Euro rival and has the rice-rocket looks to go with it.

It’s based on the slightly oddball (for a Lexus) IS 250 and 350 sports sedans. To give it some “show” to match its “go,” the body gets a serious dosage of collagen, bloating the front and rear fenders and swelling the aluminum hood.

At each corner, sinister-looking 19-inch dark gray BBS forged alloys fill the wheel wells, while at the rear, quad tailpipes stacked in a funky one-on-top-of-the-other arrangement – likely to be a ‘F’ design cue – add to the visual muscle.

If it looks a tad front-heavy, that’s because the snout has been thrust forwards three inches and widened by two to accommodate an engine the IS was never designed to accommodate – the whopping 5.0-liter V8 from Lexus’ flagship LS600hL.
