Riley Technologies Plans Track Day Car

While some car makers boast of taking what they learn and putting it on the street, one championship-caliber manufacturer is going to keep that knowledge where it can be best put to use-on the track.

Riley Technologies has announced plans for a new track day car to meet the growing demand for high-performance vehicles for use at private track facilities. The newest Riley will take to the track utilizing a mid-engine crate motor, with over 500 horsepower motivating the lightweight machine, which also included low operating costs in the design brief.

When it comes to engineering capabilities and on-track knowledge, few organizations rival Riley Technologies, whose designs took both the Daytona Prototype and GT Class victories in the 2008 Rolex 24 At Daytona. The organization has also recently deployed a new Corvette program into American Le Mans Series GT2 class competition.

“It’s tremendously exciting for us to have a design brief that doesn’t involve any rulebooks,” said Riley Technologies VP Bill Riley. “By building a car that is designed exclusively for this purpose, rather
than converting a street car, we can provide the best experience for the customer possible without having to make the compromises that other cars do.”

The lack of compromise is also demonstrated in the area of safety, with the composite body and energy absorbing crush structures providing a safe platform for the two-seater.

“We are focused on the experience for the driver just as much as we are the performance of the car,” said Riley. “The car has to be safe, it has to be fast, and it has to be reliable, and it will be. With this much power and so little weight, this is a pretty serious machine. The track day market continues to grow, and we think we’ve got a great opportunity to create a car that everyone is going to hate getting out of.”

Pricing is anticipated to be set in the mid-$100k range for the base model, with the new machine boasting an impressive stat sheet including a data logging acquisition system. Riley Technologies plans to pursue SCCA and NASA eligibility for the newest offering, which is anticipated to commence deliveries this fall.
