This is the stunning new Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder, the drop-top version of Sant’Agata’s recently uprated two-seater that was unveiled today at the LA Auto Show.

Powered by the new 5.2-liter V10 from its coupe counterpart, the Spyder delivers 552hp at 8000rpm and can sprint from zero to 124mph in 12.1sec. It’s 53hp more powerful than the previous Spyder, but also 44 lbs lighter.

Even with the roof down, the LP560-4 Spyder is good for a 202mph top speed. The fabric roof is available in black, blue, grey or beige and is electrically operated. The rear windshield operates independently of the hood and carries out the function of a cabin wind
deflector.

Underneath the engine cover, the LP560-4’s V10 features a new fuel-injection system in a bid to boost economy. This results in an 18 percent reduction in CO2 emissions.

The new open-top 560-4 benefits from the same revised four-wheel drive system as the tin-top model, while the chassis has been stiffened up for improved agility and body control. A redesigned nose also enhances the aerodynamic properties.

Like the coupe, the Spyder will be visually distinguished from its predecessor by Audi-style LED daytime running lights. Expect the Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder to cost around $220k when it arrives in showrooms early next year.
