Jimmie Johnson’s fourth top-five finish in the Chase for the Sprint Cup moves him back atop the FOXSports.com/SPEED.com Power Rankings.

The new list, following Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

1. JIMMIE JOHNSON — Running a fuel mileage race stinks, but Johnson did what he needed to do to stay in contention for his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup championship in seven years. Third in the race and second in points now. Time for Johnson to unleash his Jedi mind tricks? Last week: 3rd.

2. BRAD KESELOWSKI — It looked like Keselowski was going to win for the third time in five Chase races until he ran out of gas. Now, the pressure is on to see how he and the No. 2 Penske Racing squad respond. Last week: 1st.

3. DENNY HAMLIN — Somewhat inconsistent in terms of finishes so far in the Chase, Hamlin was second at Charlotte to maintain relevance in the championship hunt. Last week: 4th.

4. CLINT BOWYER — A huge victory under the lights put Bowyer nominally back in the title picture. To go all the way will require a couple of more victories in the final five races. Last week: 5th.

5. GREG BIFFLE — It was a very, very good weekend for the Biff, who qualified on the pole and finished fourth, his best race of the Chase so far. Last week: 11th.

6. KASEY KAHNE — While eighth place isn’t a bad finish, Kahne was mostly a non-factor at what is supposed to be one of his best tracks and a place he won in May. Disappointing. Last week: 6th.

7. TONY STEWART — No fourth title this year for the three-time champ, but he put on a whale of a rally from an early collision to finish 13th with a badly damaged car. Last week: 7th.

8. MARTIN TRUEX JR. — He finished a respectable 10th, but that’s not going to get a championship for Truex. Good race, just not good enough. Last week: 13th.

9. KYLE BUSCH — It’s been a tough season for Busch, who missed the Chase for the second time in five years with Joe Gibbs Racing. But he got a top-five on Saturday. Last week: 9th.

10. JEFF GORDON — A disastrous night for the four-time champion, as a pit-road speeding penalty sent him a lap down, which he never recovered from, finishing 18th. Last week: 2nd.

11. KEVIN HARVICK — Déjà vu all over again, as for the umpteenth time this year, the driver was a lot better than the car he drove. Last week: 12th.

12. MATT KENSETH — So much for winning Talladega last week. Kenseth, the 2011 BofA 500 winner, made it all of 11 laps before he suffered a flat tire and from there on out, his night was doomed. Last week: 8th.

13. DALE EARNHARDT JR. — Speaking of Talladega, a concussion from a last-lap crash there has resulted in Earnhardt being parked for two weeks, at a minimum. Last week: 10th.

14. CARL EDWARDS — Here’s a phrase rarely used this season: “Wow, Carl Edwards sure looks racy tonight.” Seventh place for Cousin Carl. Last week: 18th.

15. RYAN NEWMAN — Tough weekend for Newman. After qualifying third, he lost an engine in practice and had to start from the back. He finished 20th. Last week: 14th.

16. JOEY LOGANO — Ninth place was a good run for Logano, albeit third among the three Joe Gibbs Racing Toyotas. Last week: 15th.

17. JAMIE MCMURRAY — A top-20 finish for McMurray was his first since Bristol, believe it or not. Last week: 16th.

18. PAUL MENARD — No reason to smile for Menard, who finished 27th. Last week: 17th.

19. REGAN SMITH — Although his race was cut short by engine failure, Smith performed admirably filling in for Earnhardt Jr. Last week: Unranked.

20. MARCOS AMBROSE — The Tasmanian driver struggled through a bad night. Last week: 20th.
