Corvette Racing History to be Honored at the Petersen Automotive Museum on October 23, 2008

Automotive Museum in Los Angeles will present its Tribute to Corvette Racing on Thursday, October 23. Los Angeles -The event will be a distinctive celebration of Corvette racing heritage spanning six decades. Petersens tributes honoring Dan Gurney, Phil Hill, Andy Granatelli, Parnelli Jones, Carroll Shelby and the like and have always sold out.

The evening will begin at 6:30 pm with cocktails and a Museum presentation of a dozen famous Corvette race cars on display in the Bruce Meyer Gallery. Dinner will follow and a large-screen film accompanied by renowned drivers including Bob Bondurant, Tony DeLorenzo, John Fitch, John Greenwood, Dick Guldstrand, Doug Hooper, Gib Hufstader, Jim Jeffords, Bill Krause, John Mecom, Scooter Patrick, Andy Porterfield, Paul Reinhart and Dick Thompson.

Event organizer Tom McIntyre also hopes to bring GM Corvette Program Manager Doug Fehan and drivers Johnny OConnell and Ron Fellows from Corvettes Pratt & Miller team.

Among the Corvettes on display at the Petersen will be a 1960 Corvette in the marques first appearance at Le Mans, entered by the Briggs Cunningham team; and 1963 Grand sport chassis 003 entered by John Mecom at the 12 Hours of Sebring driven by A.J. Foyt and John Cannon. All cars displayed will include their documented racing histories.

During the afternoon prior to dinner that day will be a very special Panel Discussion, Corvette displays, vendor booths, book signings and autograph sessions. Tim Considine, distinguished author and car aficionado, will host
and moderate.

Continuing the Petersens annual tradition of honoring the most illustrious people and cars in motorsport will be an auction of prized memorabilia, an event that always delights the audience, and a preview of the October 25 Bonhams & Butterfield Auction of Automobiles and Motorcycles.

Because Petersen Museum tributes have been sell-outs, early ticket purchase is recommended for those who dont want to miss this Tribute to Corvette Racing. To guarantee your admission for this one-time dinner and full course of activities, please call the Checkered Flag 20 Office at 323-964-6325. Dinner tickets are $100 for Petersen Museum Members and $125 for non-members. Tickets for the afternoon Panel Discussion and autograph sessions are $25. Tickets include parking. A Cash bar will be open. Your reservations will be held at the door, tickets are not mailed.
