The Volvo S60 Concept, unveiled in January at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, was named “most-beautiful concept car” in balloting by 200,000 European readers of Auto Bild magazine.

“We are proud that the daring and exciting design of the Volvo S60 Concept has been honored with such a significant design award at a European level,” said Thomas Viehweg, managing director of Volvo Car Germany. “This is confirmation of our strong belief that we will be offering an extraordinarily attractive alternative in the highly competitive medium premium segment when the new Volvo S60 is launched on the market in 2010.”

The Auto Bild Design Award is presented annually by the motoring magazine with the highest circulation in Europe. The Volvo C30 won the award in 2006 as the most beautiful compact car model.

Voting for the 2009 Auto Bild Design Award was submitted by readers in 27 countries.
The Volvo S60 Concept opens a new design chapter in the 80-year history of the Swedish company, the automaker said. The styling of the four-door sedan reflects the principles of world-famous Scandinavian design,
with a coupe silhouette and sporty accents.

Classic Volvo design elements such as the V-shaped bonnet and broad shoulders are as much a part of the concept study as the completely new design elements, which include the trim window-area graphics and doors that glide parallel to the sides of the vehicles, all the way back to the rear wheels, at the push of a button.

The interior is visually dominated by a glass center console which flows in a gentle wave from the instrument panel to the back seats.
