Hyundai has released pricing details for the 2013 Veloster Turbo, giving it a starting price of $22,725, including shipping, for the manual-transmission-equipped model. Specifying an automatic transmission will cost you $1,000 more.

In addition to the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that produces 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, the Veloster Turbo includes a unique body kit and wheels, as well as LED headlight accents and taillights. The Turbo also uses a regular six-speed automatic transmission rather than the dual-clutch transmission from the base car.

Hyundai said it expects the combination of direct injection and turbocharging to give the Veloster Turbo a fuel-economy rating of 26 mpg city and 38 mpg highway on regular fuel.

For those who are cross-shopping in the compact hot-hatch market, a 200-horsepower Volkswagen GTI will set you back $23,995. But at that price, you'll forgo the leather seats that are standard in the Veloster Turbo, and the Veloster's third passenger door. The GTI will also drink expensive premium fuel at a slightly faster rate than the Veloster.
