Another major feature on Transit Connect and other Ford commercial trucks is the availability of Ford Work Solutions, an onboard computer system with an impressive range of features, such as Internet access; tracking of vehicle locations and maintenance needs; Tool Connect for tool inventory and control; word processing, spread sheet and accounting; and a navigation system.

Murray said he wants to see how Work Solutions would integrate with his pet-services business, in which he operates a number of trucks from various locations.

“I’m interested in the technology on board and how the computer might help us,” he said.
Not everyone was focused on business needs, though, with several people looking at Transit Connect for personal transportation. The van is available with a rear seat and side windows, and some drivers find the look and the cargo space appealing, Stoehr said.

Bicyclists, campers and other outdoors enthusiasts are impressed by the roominess inside.

Others have specific needs, such as Mark Draves, a double amputee, who needs a vehicle that can handle a wheelchair lift. He currently drives a 1993 Ford Econoline, which he’d like to trade for something with better mileage and a cooler image.

“It is a rather sexy-looking vehicle,” Draves said with a grin. “Finding something like this with a low floor and raised roofline is very attractive.”
