Although 2011 could be remembered for its electric- and hybrid-powered concept vehicles, it was also a year of fantastical dream cars that celebrated past glories or provided a glimpse of a high-tech future, seen at auto shows and special events around the world.

Here are the 10 concept cars that lit up the circuit during 2011:

Jaguar X-C16 hybrid – Another gorgeous concept car from Jaguar, this curvaceous coupe could become a new production car for the British automaker.

BMW 328 Hommage – The lightweight concept car is described by BMW as a modern interpretation of the 1930s-era 328, and like the original pays close attention lightweight design, now using carbon-fiber reinforced plastic to keep the curb weight down to 1,720 pounds.

Mercedes-Benz Unimog concept – One of the year’s wildest concepts, the Automaker celebrates 60 years of its relentless off-road beast with a design study painted the color of a poisonous frog.

Honda AC-X Hybrid – The four-door coupe uses plug-in hybrid efficiency and varying selectable driving modes with a body style that looks into Honda’s future.
