SPEED is set for 21 hours of live coverage from this year’s Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Palm Beach, Fla., starting Thursday, April 5 at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT.

Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary at this South Florida venue, is also the second of SPEED’s grand slam of collector-car broadcasts that includes the upcoming Orange County, Calif. (June 22-24) and Las Vegas (Sept. 20-22) auctions. The annual Scottsdale, Arizona, auction is held every January.

Calling this year’s action is long-time Barrett-Jackson and Formula One lead Bob Varsha, who is joined in the booth by veteran automotive writer, editor and author Matt Stone. On the auction block is car collector Mike Joy, the Voice of NASCAR on FOX, and Steve Magnante, a leading muscle-car expert, freelance writer and television personality. Rick Debruhl, Justin Bell, Ralph Sheheen and Maxim’s April Rose cruise the auction tents for storylines and introduce each of the Hagerty Fantasy Bid Game vehicles.

“Palm Beach continues our expanded Barrett-Jackson coverage for 2012,” said Rick Miner, SPEED Senior VP of Production, Network Operations and Executive Producer. “We’ll have the entire on-air team we had for Scottsdale, along with full support for the Social Garage, making the 10th anniversary auction one of the best yet.”

Viewers can join the SPEED Social Garage conversation on SPEED.com, Facebook and Twitter through the @BarrettOnSPEED handle and/or the #BJA2012 hash tag. To interact with their favorite on-air hosts, the audience can also follow Bob Varsha (@bobvarsha), Matt Stone (@MattStoneCars), Mike Joy (@mikejoy500), Rick DeBruhl (@rickdebruhl), Justin Bell (@justinbelltv), Ralph Sheheen (@ralphsheheen), Maxim’s April Rose (@tweetAprilRose), SPEED.com Editor-In-Chief Tom Jensen (@tomjensen100) and SPEED.com Automotive Editor Bob Golfen (@BobGolfen) for the latest on what’s happening in Palm Beach.

Full coverage of the Palm Beach auction is also provided on SPEED.com, including live streaming, photo galleries, articles and auction sales results.

Among the highlights at this year’s Palm Beach auction is the 35-car Riley Hogan, Jr., American iron collection being sold at “no reserve.” The cars are positioned throughout the Thursday and Friday dockets, but is highlighted by a lineup of 12 cars set for Saturday, April 7, starting with a pristine 1957 Chevrolet (Lot 655.2) hardtop, a rare pink 1957 Lincoln Premiere convertible (Lot 657.1), a Triple Maze 1962 Cadillac Series 62 convertible (Lot 657.2) and a hard-to-find 1957 Buick Century Custom Wagon (Lot 659).

Resto-Mods, custom cars that combine vintage exteriors, frames and sheet metal with modern-day amenities, have become one of the fastest growing segments of car collecting. These machines have their roots in the Pro Touring and Pro Street movements that evolved in the 1990s.

A prime example of these beautifully turned out rides is Lot 669, a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. This Specialty Equipment Marketers Association (SEMA) show car is one of the stars of this auction.

Powered by GM’s 408-cubic-inch, new-stroked LQ9 crate engine, a high-performance 4L60E automatic transmission, adjustable coil-over, four-link suspension, a Moser 9-inch rear end, Richmond 3.70 gears and a Corvette Z06 brake package, it’s one potent all-black, high-performance muscle car. A top-of-the-line audio system and integrated iPad adds a touch of entertainment to the combination as well.

The Hagerty Fantasy Bid Game, which broke all previous participant records with nearly 1.6 million bids during the most recent Scottsdale auction, returns to Palm Beach with three days of game play and a host of per car, daily and overall rewards, highlighted by a 55-inch Samsung 3D, LED, LCD high-definition television as the grand prize.

“The popularity of the Hagerty Fantasy Bid game continues to grow each year,” said Kevin Annison, SPEED Vice President of Digital and Interactive Media. “It’s long been our goal to make the interactive and fantasy game experience as fun and engaging as possible for our viewers, while continually offering great prizing and better gameplay at each and every live Barrett-Jackson broadcast.”

Gameplay challenges contestants throughout SPEED’s live coverage to guess the final gaveled price of pre-selected vehicles without going over.

Players are awarded points at the completion of each Fantasy Bid car and daily session. The player amassing the most points throughout the Hagerty Fantasy Bidding is declared the grand-prize winner, with runner-up and third-place prizes awarded as well. Daily prizes and per-car prizes are also awarded. Players wanting to create an entry can log onto http://www.speedfantasybid.com/ to register.

A Sony Flash Camcorder goes to the runner-up while a Kindle Fire Color 7-inch Multi-touch goes to third-place overall. Three $500 gas cards are given out as daily prizes, while brand-new, 16-gigabyte Apple iPads are given away per car.

Contestants can also enter via mobile device by sending an SMS text message to “773333”’ (SPEED 3) with a Fantasy Bid during applicable bidding times. To place a bid, enter the amount of your bid in dollars without punctuation.
