The Viper V10-powered Dodge Ram SRT-10 once had the distinction of being the world’s fastest pickup truck. Production ended on June 30, 2006, and muscle-truck fans have been left with no viable options from Dodge or Ram.

Now that things in Auburn Hills have settled down, Ram is testing the performance-pickup waters once again. Debuting at this year’s SEMA show is the Ram 392 Quick Silver, a full-size Ram pickup that Chrysler bills as ideal for sharing garage space with a Dodge Viper.

For Quick Silver duty, the standard 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is gone, replaced by a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 good for 470 horsepower in stock trim. Next comes a cold air intake, headers (with an electronic exhaust cutout to really annoy the neighbors) and a cat-back exhaust system.

Ensuring that the Ram 392 Quick Silver can stop as well as it goes, a Brembo brake kit featuring 15-inch vented rotors and six-piston calipers gets bolted to all four corners. The truck then gets dropped by a full two inches, with 22-inch wheels shod in 305/40R22 tires (rear) and 275/45R22 tires (front) are added.

The Quick Silver’s body is sprayed in a three-stage bright-silver paint with a black roof, while red wheels, mirrors and trim add color. A deep-cowl aluminum hood, complete with heat extractors comes next, and a Mopar body kit is added to complete the look.

Will Ram build such a truck in regular production? We suppose that depends on customer interest. Unlike the Challenger SRT8 ACR Dodge built primarily from the Mopar catalog for SEMA, building a Ram 392 QuickSilver of your own would take serious time, effort and money.

It’s not like the Quick Silver would have a lot of competition; Chevy killed off the Silverado 454 SS long ago, and Ford no longer builds an F-150 Lightning. Maybe the Ram 392 Quick Silver is just what the company needs to build interest in its product line.
