Starting in March, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in partnership with SMP Motorsports will offer a certificate program in Motorsports Management Technology for military veterans with physical disabilities.
RCCC will offer all of the courses in the program at the SMP Motorsports racing facilities in Mooresville, N.C. The program is comprised of seven courses, offered over three semesters. Program classes will begin March 16.
“In 2010, SMP Motorsports founder Sue Roberson established the ‘Manpower-to-Horsepower’ program for disabled military veterans that included track ride-alongs in a customized, late-model, dirt track race car,” said Richmond Gage, head of the RCCC Motorsports Management Technology program. “Ms. Roberson wanted to expand her program to include hands-on training, and she contacted RCCC to see how we could work together.
“We are honored and proud to offer this program for veterans with disabilities. This is another example of RCCC working with community partners to meet the varied needs of our students.”
RCCC’s motorsports management certificate program for veterans with disabilities has been approved by the Veteran’s Administration for vocational rehabilitation. All program courses are approved by the N.C. Community College System and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The program will accept 15 students initially and will evaluate the need for additional enrollment after a first semester review.
