Roger Penske, chairman of the second largest automotive group in the nation, has an international plan for the Saturn dealership network if he is successful in acquiring the brand from General Motors.

The Saturn dealers would sell Renault Samsung Motors vehicles imported from South Korea, according to a report in Automotive News.

Penske met in Paris on May 11 with Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn to discuss the arrangement, source told the industry newsletter, in which the South Korean automaker would supply vehicles for distribution by Saturn.

Renault owns 80.1 percent of Renault Samsung, with South Korean credit-card issuer Samsung Card owning the rest, the report says.

Penske, who heads Penske Automotive Group located in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., recently hired former Chrysler
LLC co-President Tom LaSorda to help in the negotiations with GM to buy Saturn. Michigan dealers David Fischer and Joe Serra also are working with Penske on a Saturn deal, Automotive News said.

Saturn currently has 384 dealerships in the United States.
