Following on the heels of its critically acclaimed Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler took the wraps off its 2011 Dodge Durango, complete with the brand’s restyled logo.

Dodge released photos today of its new midsize SUV, showing a sleekly modern design with a new-look crossbar grille. The Durango, based on the same unibody platform as Grand Cherokee, was described by Dodge as a “three-row performance vehicle” with seven-passenger seating compared with the two-row, five-passenger Grand Cherokee.

Durango is the first Dodge to wear the brand’s new logo, minus the ram’s horns that stayed with the spun-off Ram truck brand.

The first public viewing of Durango will be over the Labor Day weekend when the SUV will lead the parade for the Dodge Rock ‘n' Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon in Virginia Beach, Va. Durango goes on sale this fall.

Two engine options are available, the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and the available 5.7-liter Hemi V8, which utilizes the fuel-saving four-cylinder mode at low engine loads.

Although the interior was not visible in the publicity photos, Dodge promises that the new Durango follows Chrysler’s company-wide upgrade in cabin style, comfort and quality. Dodge claims that there are 22 possible seating configurations for Durango.
