The two-door version of Mini's small SUV will most likely be called Countryman Coupe when it arrives for 2013.

Mini first showed the Paceman, a “crossover coupe” concept, at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show and confirmed production at the same time. The two-door version of the Countryman is almost ready to dealer showrooms, but most likely with a new name.

Countryman Coupe is the apparent moniker, which ties the car back to the model from which it was derived. Compared with the Countryman crossover, the Countryman Coupe sheds two doors and gets a more stylish rear, complete with horizontal taillights (as opposed to the Countryman’s vertical ones) and a revised bumper.

A closer-to-production version of the Countryman Coupe is expected to be displayed at September’s Paris Auto Show, with production beginning in early 2013. Expect the Mini Countryman Coupe to hit dealer showrooms in mid-2013, possibly as a 2014 model.

The Countryman Coupe will be the seventh model to join the Mini family, following in the footsteps of the recently-launched Cooper Coupe and Cooper Roadster. Mini’s much-beloved Rocketman urban-car concept, once thought to be production-bound, was killed off for regulatory reasons in January.
