The McLaren MP4-12C supercar will get a bevy of updates for 2013, and current 12C owners will have access to most of them at no charge.

First and most importantly on the list is a power increase from 592 to 616 horsepower, a 24-horse bump through engine-remapping.

The boost in power helps pull the McLaren to a 10.6 quarter-mile, one-tenth of a second faster than in the previous year model. Top speed is up to 207 mph from its previous 205 mph.
With the remapped engine and a transmission modified to provide crisper throttle response and faster, smoother shifts, the 12C retains its 24.2 mpg combined rating.

A vehicle lift system will also be an option for 2013 buyers. The system lifts the car 40 millimeters in the front and 25 millimeters in the rear to help with entry and exits of driveways and parking ramps.

The McLaren also will come with something called Intake Sound Generator, which pipes the sound of the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 into the cabin to enhance the driving experience. Now, drivers will be able to select the amount of engine noise via the ISG. We here at Autoweek prefer the open windows and hammer-down method, but to each his own.

On the inside, additional “naturally textured leather” options are available, including full-, semi- or mixed-leather with Alcantara inserts.

The updates also include a small button on the doors for entry. Previously, the MP4-12C had a touch sensor. Headlights will now automatically turn on in rainy conditions for added safety.

Paint options also expand with the addition of volcanic yellow to the existing red and orange “volcanic” choices. McLaren is also offering a new set of five-spoke forged wheels. Buyers can also specify traditional rocket red/silver badges or opt for stealth/silver coloring.

Dealers are contacting current owners and offering to upgrade their MP4-12Cs.
