This may be the most unusual – and unbelievable – high-speed hi-jinx ever caught on film. C’etait un Rendezvous was a 10-minute short recorded by famous French director Claude Lelouch and his Ferrari 275 GTB. There was no staging, no editing or any true pre-planning, just raw power, a beautiful sound and dangerous driving.

As the story goes, Lelouch had just completed a successful feature film that allowed him to buy his Ferrari. At the same time, he had obtained a new gyro-mounted camera that had 10 minutes of film to play with. Despite being denied by Parisian authorities, he still mounted the camera and dangerously maneuvered through the streets of Paris at a high rate of speed. He ran red lights, dodged pedestrians and missed multiple birds en route to Basilique du Sacre Cou’r in Montmatre. It’s truly a sight to behold.

Upon first release, Lelouch was arrested for his adventure, forcing the show underground. Later on, documentary film maker and car enthusiast Richard Symons reached out to LeLouch, dusted off the old 35 mm negative, restored and re-mastered it, and promptly re-released it to the viewing public. We’re glad he did, as this is the 70s version of the ultimate driving ‘reality show.’
