The popular sequel to 1995 hit movie, Bad Boys, starring Will Smith (Miami Narcotics Division Detective, Mike Lowry) and Martin Lawrence (Detective Marcus Burnett), Bad Boys II has one of the more explosive car chases of all time as they battle to take the drug ecstasy off the market. With Director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, you wouldn’t expect anything less.

Sydney ‘Sid’ Burnett (played by Gabrielle Union), who’s dating Mike and is Marcus’ sister, is an undercover DEA agent. She’s driving a 2003 GMC Yukon Denali SUV and runs from a murder/robbery attempt after a failed sting operation. In the chase, Mike drives his light blue Ferrari 575 Maranello and is chasing down the protagonists in their muscle cars (a 1969 Chevrolet Nova, a 1970 Dodge Super Bee, a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am & 1969 Pontiac Firebird). Its violent, it’s funny and it’s dramatic.

One of the most notable things about this chase – and all others in the movie – is the reverence paid to the Ferrari. Within all the mayhem, shooting and destruction, that beautiful V-12 inspired Maranello receives very little total damage. In fact, the big joke at the end of the movie revolves around Mike’s maintenance bill. Enzo would be proud.

What to look for… During the chase, one of the gang members shoots a truck carrying a Buick Park Avenue. However, a Pontiac Grand Prix drops onto the road. In the movie, they use both a Ferrari 550 and a 575.

Everyone has their favorite car chase scene… and many have multiple ones. On Thanksgiving Night (Nov. 25), SPEED enters the conversation with a two-hour special called, Hollywood’s Hottest Car Chases, premiering at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

New York City’s Pangolin Pictures looks at the last 40 years of cinematic car chases, re-living many great scenes through the eyes of those who created, shot and played out what has become one of Hollywood’s greatest creative contributions. Broken out in themes, this feature presentaion is produced to be the most comprehensive look at how this genre has evolved from Steve McQueen’s Bullitt to Matt Damon’s Bourne Identity.

Through Thanksgiving, SPEED will roll out some of our favorites from around the studio here in Charlotte. This not a countdown per se, and we want to hear from you, as we’ll introduce a new car chase scene every Monday through Thursday. Let the Chase Begin…
