In standard trim, the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is shaping up to be a very capable muscle car, with output figures listed as 580 horsepower and 556 pound-feet of torque.

But that’s not enough for the guys at Hennessey Performance, who have announcing a range of upgrades that will see the car develop from 610 to 1,021 horsepower, depending on the package.

Yes, you read that correctly. Hennessey is offering an HPE1000 Twin Turbo package for the ZL1 that will deliver 1,021 horsepower.

The HPE 1000 upgrade is quite intensive, requiring the removal of the supercharged LSA engine and the installation of a 7-liter LSX unit with a custom twin-turbocharging kit. Unique features of the mega powerplant will include forged internals, high-flow cylinder heads, upgraded fuel injectors, an electronic boost controller and dual waste gates, an air-to-air intercooler and a stainless steel exhaust system.

Hennessey will also be running some milder tunes on the new Camaro ZL1, starting with a base HPE600 package offering 610 horsepower, as well as HPE650, 700 and 800 packages with varying output figures being dialed up.
