Editor’s note — Welcome to the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Collector Car event. Each day, we’ll look at five interesting cars to roll across the block. Here are the Thursday cars.

LOT 42.1, 1980 JEEP — There’s an awful lot to like about this very cool 1980 Jeep CJ-7 resto-mod. The best part? An honest-to-goodness Chrysler Hemi crate motor, with swing-away front fenders for easy access. Painted in a hard-to-miss purple, it has full doors, power windows, a removable hardtop and a Bimini softtop. There’s also tons of chrome, a custom interior and off-road lights on a chrome tube rack. This is a seriously over-the-top Jeep. UPDATE: — This high-performance Jeep fetched a top bid of $24,000, plus 10 percent bidder’s premium. Lots of fun for not much money.

LOT 25, 1957 FORD F-100 CUSTOM PICKUP — Dark red rules in this resto-modded 1957 Ford F-100, which is powered by a Ford 351 Windsor V-8 engine backed by a heavy duty Ford C-6 automatic transmission. The interior features extra heavy-duty padding in the bench seat, as well as a custom interior. This is an older restoration that definitely has a vintage vibe to it. UPDATE: — This truck sold for just $5500, including 10 percent bidder’s premium, making it one of the day’s early bargains.

LOT 45.1, 1970 VOLKSWAGEN WESTFALIA BUS — Last summer, mid-1960s Volkswagen buses exploded in value, and it will be interesting to see if the enthusiasm carries over this year. This 1970 Westfalia bus was stripped to the frame and shell and completely customized and restored. Among the myriad upgrades are custom wood paneling, seating, air conditioning, flooring, table and drapes. Mechanically, it’s gotten a full going over as well, with a rebuilt engine with dual Weber carbs. UPDATE: — The 1970 VW Westfalia van sold for $21,000 plus 10 percent bidder’s premium.

LOT 53.2, 1953 CHEVROLET 3100 PICKUP — There are tons of cool vintage pickup trucks at Barrett-Jackson, both stock and resto-modded. This 1953 Chevy received a sympathetic restoration that makes both a good driver and attractive to look at. It also comes with a great story, having recently been driven from Quartzite, Arizona to Anchorage, Alaska and back, which means it can be counted on to be as dependable as a working truck should be. Definitely a truck to keep an eye on. UPDATE: — A great truck and a good price: The ’53 Chevy goes across the block at a hammer price of $25,000.

LOT 70, CUSTOM 1970 FORD BRONCO — Here is the perfect South Florida beach cruiser, a heavily customized 1970 Ford Bronco that was actually built for last year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. Loaded with a 351-cubic-inch engine and a ton of custom extras for show and go, too many to list here. The perfect combination of style, attitude and color, this is a winner. UPDATE: — The buyer who paid just $20,000 plus buyer’s premium got this hot blue Bronco for far less than it cost to build it.
