The search is on for Corvette-related items to put into a time capsule that will be sealed Sept. 14 to mark the 60th anniversary of Chevrolet’s all-American sports car.

The time capsule is due to be opened on Sept. 14, 2053, to mark the 100th anniversary of Corvette.

Mid America Motorworks, the largest supplier of aftermarket parts and accessories for Corvettes, asks that any Corvette enthusiast who has an item or two with the potential of being included in the time capsule to take part.

The company is looking for the rarest Corvette items to include in the capsule, ranging from key chains to artifacts, model cars to owner’s manuals, posters to vintage brochures, pictures with Corvettes and predictions or renderings of what Corvettes could look like in the future.

The items selected for the time capsule will be showcased during Mid America Motorworks Corvette Funfest 2012, September 13-16, in Effingham, Ill., during which the capsule will be sealed. Owners of unique Corvette memorabilia, who are willing to part with the item for the next 40 years, are encouraged to send an email with their name, contact information and brief description, including dimensions and images, to timecapsule@mamotorworks.com.

Selected items will be announced during the last week of August. History will be made as the time capsule is sealed on-site and placed in an exhibition monument at Funfest.

“With this time capsule, we are stealing from the future while honoring the Corvettes of the current and past generations,” said Mike Yager, chief cheerleader of Mid America Motorworks.

The 19th Annual Corvette Funfest is scheduled for Sept. 13-16 at Mid America Motorworks' corporate campus in Effingham, Ill. For more details, visit www.corvettefunfest.com. This year, Mid America Motorworks also will celebrate the introduction of the 1963 Sting Ray.
