Legendary racer Carroll Shelby will attend the 2010 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance on Saturday to help celebrate its 15th anniversary, filling in for Sir Stirling Moss OBE who can no longer attend due to an unfortunate accident last weekend, the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance Foundation, Inc. announced today.

Shelby will substitute for Moss at “The Three Greats” seminar set for Saturday with motorsport icons Richard "The King" Petty and Don “Big Daddy” Garlits. He will also participate as a judge at the Concours on Sunday.

“We were very much looking forward to having Sir Stirling Moss return to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his 1960 Cuban Grand Prix victory, but we’re honored that Carroll Shelby agreed to step in during this time,” said Bill Warner, Concours founder and co-chairman.

From his hospital bed over the weekend, Moss e-mailed Warner expressing his sadness for being unable to attend this weekend’s event, adding Shelby is “a great and worthy substitute.” Moss, 80, was injured in a fall at his home.

Shelby, who helped develop the AC Cobra and Shelby Mustangs into great muscle cars, was the Concours’ 1999 honoree, and his Ferrari 410, which finished second in the 1957 Cuban Grand Prix, was already set to be one of the cars on display to honor the race and Moss’s win there 50 years ago.
