AUTOS: Car Spotters, Here’s Your Game
A new board game, ‘Carnology,’ tests your skill at indentifying cars from the past. Advice: Don’t play against SPEED’s resident car expert Steve Magnante.

Looking for something fun to play at your next car-club meeting, cruise-in or car-guys' get-together? You might want to pack Carnology.

In this new trivia/identification game, players race around the board toward the checkered flag, trying to guess the car make, model and year based on a deck of 525 different picture cards with nine different car categories. It even includes a more challenging close-up category, as well as one in which players only identify models by the headlights, bumper and grille.

Creator John Cupit notes that the game, good for ages 11 and older, was inspired in part by childhood road trips with his father, when they would guess cars at a distance.

Just beware that Carnologysounds geared for the type of car enthusiasts who attend car shows and auctions, read collector-car magazines and use the Standard Catalog volumes as bathroom reading.

Likewise, this isn't for those whose enthusiasm goes back to the cars from the first Fast and Furious movie. Those who do well in this game will probably be those who know cars going back decades.

Can you tell your 1970s sports cars apart from a distance? And is asking for the model year of a split-window Corvette a no-brainer? If so, we think those are signs you should give this one a try.

Check out the video for more information on the game, as well as the Carnology website on how to buy it the game, which is also available through Amazon.
