In just a couple of weeks, the high-end collector-car auctions happen in Monterey and thereabouts, so here are websites of the major big-dog events, including their sale catalogs.

Maybe you can’t afford these top-of-the-heap vintage rides, but you are permitted to gaze and dream:

Bonhams & Butterfields
In its Exceptional Motorcars and Automobilia Auction, the venerated British auction house has some big-buck collectibles, such as a historic 1908 Thomas Flyer, a 1930 Mercedes-Benz sports tourer and, glory of glories, a 1970 Porsche 917K Spyder. Bonhams.

Russo and Steele
Bringing its high-energy auction to Monterey for its 10th year with a cool mix of sports, muscle and race cars, such as a 1969 Mustang Boss 302 Trans Am car raced by Parnelli Jones, a 1966 Lamborghini 350GT and a romantic 1933 Auburn V12 boattail. Russo and Steele.

RM Auctions
The Canadian auctioneer rolls out its 25th year of Sports and Classics of Monterey, featuring a pontoon-fendered 1958 Ferrari 250 TR, a 1938 Talbot Lago Teardrop Coupe and a 1964 Shelby Cobra team car. RM Auctions.

Mecum Auctions
The Monterey event includes such choice morsels as a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT TdF that placed third overall at Le Mans, a 1969 ZL1 COPO Camaro and a group of 15 cars from the collection of baseball hall-of-famer Reggie Jackson.

MidAmerica
The Vintage Motorcycle Auction brings its two-wheeled beauties to Pebble Beach for a second year, with such desirable collector bikes as a beautifully art deco 1925 BMW R32, a 1923 Harley-Davidson board-track racer and a 1914 Indian.

Gooding & Company
As usual, there are plenty of tasty treats at its Monterey auction, including a fine one-off 1951 Ferrari 340 America by Vignale, and a 1927 Mercedes-Benz S Boattail Speedster that appeared in a Hollywood movie and was later raced on a dry lake by Zeppo Marx. Gooding Auction.

And furthermore
OK, let’s put all this high-end stuff in perspective. For those of you who revel in the misery of others, or who appreciate the surreal beauty of a wrecked Lamborghini, here’s the site for you, sicko. Check out: Wrecked Collector Cars.
