AUTOS: Barrett-Jackson’s Stunning Results
With more than $92 million in sales, nine seven-figure collector cars and record attendance, the Scottsdale auction soars to new heights.
All the top-priced cars were sold during Saturday’s “prime time” auction, with 21 cars from the Salon collection rolling over the broad stage before a massive crowd of bidders, consigners and onlookers packed into the gigantic main auction structure. Ten other top collector cars were offered through the special 5000 auction-number series.

Other million-dollar-plus sellers were:
• An extremely rare 1933 Pierce Arrow Silver Arrow from Don William’s Blackhawk Collection that went for $2.2 million.
• The unique 1954 DeSoto Adventurer II concept car that hit a well-deserved $1.43 million.
• The biggest British car every built, a 1928 Daimler Royal Limousine, at $1,155,000.
• A low-mileage 1930 Isotta Fraschini Cabriolet sold for $1.1 million.
• A magnificent 1930 Duesenberg J limousine, at $1,045,000.
Celebrities who appeared on stage to help sell vehicles, mostly for charitable causes, included Jay Leno, Bret Michaels, Alice Cooper, Nancy Grace, Kathie Lee Gifford, Jordin Sparks, Peter Tork of the Monkees and a contingent of Medal of Honor recipients who helped sell a unique ’32 Ford roadster built by Illinois church volunteers and benefiting the children of slain and disabled military veterans. The hot rod raised $150,000 for the Ironmen Foundation.
Craig Jackson, the son of co-founder Russ Jackson – who with Scottsdale classic-car enthusiast Tom Barrett started up the auction in 1971 – said he is especially gratified to bring back the top-drawer American and European classics that had been a mainstay of previous Barrett-Jackson auctions.
“The excitement over the high-end classics in the 5000 series and the Salon Offering Collection this year is beyond words,” Jackson said in a media release. “The record crowds were the most enthusiastic I have seen in years.
“I’m humbled to say that we had a record number of cars cross the block and were able to revisit our roots by offering some of the purest classics and concepts on the market with extraordinary results. Additionally, we still maintained our ‘something for everyone’ philosophy by providing the largest selection of vintage cars and trucks in our 41-year history.”
