For years, Barrett-Jackson has used its highly successful auction company to raise money for worthwhile charities around the globe. The organizations benefitting from an influx of needed funds touch people from every walk of life.

In the past five years, the legendary auction house has raised nearly $40 million for charity, with more than $15 million of that being raised since January 2010. The Las Vegas auction will be the capstone of Barrett-Jackson’s 40th Anniversary Celebration, and one of its biggest years of raising funds for charities.

Barrett-Jackson donates the valuable block time to the various charities, waiving auction fees and giving 100 percent of the proceeds to the worthy causes.

When the 2011 automotive calendar kicked off in Scottsdale in January, $4 million was raised for 19 local and national charitable causes. Among the offerings were a 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 and a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro convertible pace car. The BOSS was provided by the Ford Motor Company and hammered at $450,000 to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The pace car donated by General Motors raised $225,000 for the David Foster Foundation, which provides assistance to Canadian families in need of organ transplants.

One of the more emotional moments came when the highly customized WD-40/SEMA Cares 2011 Mustang GT coupe arrived on the block to benefit Childhelp and the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Bidding quickly reached $100,000 when “Home Improvement” star Tim Allen stepped up, donating $10,000 of his own money toward the sale, and set off a flood of matched donations from members of the audience.

When the frenzy was over several minutes later and auctioneer Spanky Assiter tallied the final count, more than $200,000 had been raised.

In West Palm Beach, more than $500,000 was generated for various local and national charities, including the Darrell Gwynn Foundation, the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, the Rose Foundation of Haiti and the Children’s Home Society Faine House. The top charitable proceeds went to the Boy Scouts of America with the sale of a 1953 Chevrolet custom pickup truck for $72,000.

The Barrett-Jackson Orange County auction raised more than $850,000. The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer benefitted as well as Cell Phones for Soldiers, the Center for Living Peace and the Tony Hawk Foundation.

Now the rally for charitable causes is advancing to the high stakes world of Las Vegas with another round of cars being auctioned off to benefit some very worthy causes.

Lot #674.3 is a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 powered by the LSA Supercharged 6.2-Liter V8 engine producing an estimated 550 horsepower. The Camaro is offered by Fairway Chevrolet of Las Vegas, and all proceeds from the sale will benefit the YMCA of Southern Nevada, an organization committed to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility in Southern Nevada.

Displayed at Barrett-Jackson in its pre-production form, the 69th production 2012 Camaro ZL1 will go to the winning bidder, who will be able to select any available options from a long list. This will be the only production vehicle in the Carbon Flash Metallic color.

Lot #370.1 is a 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda custom two door hardtop, AKA the “Barrett-Cuda.” This one-of-a-kind vehicle was built by longtime Darrell Gwynn Foundation supporters Mike Langston and Dick Koch of Pure Power Motorsports and donated for auction at Las Vegas to commemorate Barrett-Jackson’s 40th anniversary.

The car is a one-of-one special edition, Grand Touring model with a new Hemi engine, widened rear quarters and painted in Barrett-Jackson’s colors. The body shell was donated by Scott Milestone, and the 572 Hemi V8 was built by Stanton, discounted by Mopar and donated by Tom and Cindy Wright.

Other donated items in this ‘Cuda include the Year One supplied interior, Panoz Automotive Development power bucket seats, air conditioning by Vintage Air, body wrap by Pure Power Motorsports and Sherwin-Williams Paint by Scott Taylor at Bizarre Customs.
