AUTO: Bubble Cars Make Big Splash At Auction
Tiny BMW Isettas and rare Heinkels score loads of attention and decent bids at Barrett-Jackson auction.

Two other Isettas, including a rare cloth-top semi-convertible, hit decent money in their sales. Both 1957 300 models, the convertible sold for $31,900 and the coupe reached $24,200, both including fees.

Another Isetta sold this afternoon, this one a rare 1961 600 “limo” powered by a two-cylinder BMW R50 motorcycle engine. It could be considered more of an actual usable car than the bubbles that sold earlier.

It went for $33,000, with bidders fee, a relative steal for such a weird piece of automotive history.

The other Heinkel, a cool little red job, hit $27,500, with bidders fee.

Two other miniscule cars, American-made King Midgets that look like shrunken Jeepsters, were comparative bargains, each selling for $15,950, with fees. Both minimalistic convertibles, one was a 1958 model and the other from 1962.

Bidding continues today through Sunday at the 39th annual Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, with live auction action broadcast on SPEED. The weather is clear today, a welcomed change from the heavy storm that dampened Thursday's event, although overcast clouds hint of more dicey weather to come.
