“60 Years of Watkins Glen” Race Cars Featured at Fairfield Concours
In a special display re-creating "60 Years of Watkins Glen," the race cars will be arrayed in a Le Mans-style starting.

More than a dozen sports racing and single-seater race cars with racing history at storied Watkins Glen will comprise one of seven distinct focuses at the Fairfield County Concours d'Elegance, scheduled for Sept. 21 on the grounds of the Fairfield County Hunt Club here. Porsche Cars North America is the presenting sponsor.

In a special display re-creating "60 Years of Watkins Glen," the race cars will be arrayed in a Le Mans-style starting grid with a pit lane motif with period flags, track equipment and accessories to give onlookers a feeling for what racing "in zee oldt dayz" was really about. Among the cars that raced (or had sister cars compete) at the Glen on display will be Briggs Cunningham's '39 Bu-Merc and '51 C2R; Allard J2 Prototype; Jaguar's '52 C-Type and '55 D-Type; the '53 (Walt) Hansgen Jaguar Special; '64 Ferrari 158 F1; '66 Lola T70 Spyder; '70 L88 Corvette; '71 McLaren M8F; '73 Porsche 917/30; Mario Andretti's world-championship Lotus 79 F1 racer; and a 1984 Porsche 962.

More than 140 of the world's most unique vintage, classic and collector cars and motorcycles will help to make this 5th edition one of the top concours events in the U.S. this year. In addtion to the Watkins Glen tribute, other themes being explored include: Amelia Island Concours Prize-Winning Automobiles: winners from Amelia will include a '38 Horch 853 A Sport Cabriolet, which also won 2004's Best in Show at Pebble Beach.

Preservation Vehicles: unrestored, these cars reflect the passage of time and added patina.
