More than a dozen sports racing and single-seater race cars with racing history at storied Watkins Glen will comprise one of seven distinct focuses at the Fairfield County Concours d'Elegance, scheduled for Sept. 21 on the grounds of the Fairfield County Hunt Club here. Porsche Cars North America is the presenting sponsor.
In a special display re-creating "60 Years of Watkins Glen," the race cars will be arrayed in a Le Mans-style starting grid with a pit lane motif with period flags, track equipment and accessories to give onlookers a feeling for what racing "in zee oldt dayz" was really about. Among the cars that raced (or had sister cars compete) at the Glen on display will be Briggs Cunningham's '39 Bu-Merc and '51 C2R; Allard J2 Prototype; Jaguar's '52 C-Type
More than 140 of the world's most unique vintage, classic and collector cars and motorcycles will help to make this 5th edition one of the top concours events in the U.S. this year. In addtion to the Watkins Glen tribute, other themes being explored include: Amelia Island Concours Prize-Winning Automobiles: winners from Amelia will include a '38 Horch 853 A Sport Cabriolet, which also won 2004's Best in Show at Pebble Beach.
Preservation Vehicles: unrestored, these cars reflect the passage of time and added patina.
