In a way, it's not right to say that a current Jeep Wrangler is retro. It's just the latest version of what it's always been. Oh sure, they've gotten plushier over the years, with options like A/C, automatic transmission, and even carpeting. What is the world coming to? But you can still get one without all that stuff; a tough, little pit bull of a truck that has a short wheelbase, four-wheel drive, lots of torque, removable doors, and a windshield that folds down if you want more bugs and dust in your teeth. A Wrangler is a ton of fun on a sunny day with cooler and boom box in tow.

BEHIND THE WHEEL: Visit your local Jeep dealer, and get one of the last new ones or a low-mileage example that someone just turned in off a two- to three-year lease.
DID YOU KNOW: This is one of the few consumer vehicles in production that still has a flat windshield.
THE PERFECT DRIVE: They still let you drive on the beach in Pismo. Just let a few pounds of air out of the tires, and bring your BBQ.
